Remote Learning Technical Support
Dear Cedar Canyon Families,
At the beginning of this school year, I don’t think any of us predicted that 2020 would bring a pandemic. Schools and businesses are closing, schedules are uprooted, and grocery stores are low on supplies. But we can always find the silver lining if we look for it. Our country is pulling together to drastically slow the spread of this virus. We are sacrificing normalcy to keep the number of those contaminated as low as possible. I also feel fortunate that our district is taking proactive measures to keep our students safe rather than waiting for a confirmed case to close schools. It won’t be convenient, but it’s a measure to keep as many people as safe as possible.
Cedar Canyon Office
The office will be open from 7:30-3:00 on Monday and Tuesday this week. If you need to pick up medication or forgotten items from the classroom, please stop by during these times on one of these two days. We will also have Wednesday office hours each week from 8:00am – 2:30pm. This will provide families time to pick up work from the school if they do not have online availability.
Remote Learning
As Dr. Himsel’s email explained, we will be starting “remote learning” on Wednesday, March 18th. The goal is to continue instruction so that students can stay on track with the grade-level gains they have been making all year. It won’t be the same as being in a classroom with a teacher, but we are going to keep our routine and make the best of this unique situation. Teachers will use Google Meet or Canvas Conference (think of it like Skype or Facetime) to deliver instruction to the class, and they will be available throughout the school day to help students with any questions they might have. I will still deliver morning announcements through our school webpage, students will be able to see and interact with their teacher each day, they will still have their related arts classes, students who qualify for them will still receive special education services, etc. We are going to strive for routine as much as possible.
Technology
If you have questions in regard to technology, there will be link on the webpage under the parent section for technology help. If you don’t have reliable internet, please make sure to communicate that with your student’s teacher(s) so other arrangements can be made.
Theme Days
In order to keep kids excited about learning, I have developed theme days for the students. Kids can log on to their morning/afternoon meetings following the theme activities below. Schedule
A schedule for Remote Learning is listed below. Your child’s teacher will provide you with more detailed information soon. All remote learning will take place on Monday – Thursday. Students will not have remote learning on Friday’s. As I mentioned above, routine is going to be extremely important for our kids. Please do everything you can to ensure that students are ready for class at 8:00, they tune in for their related arts class at 10:00, and they check in with their teacher at noon. If students cannot access their classes according to this schedule, they will still have access to assignments, directions, and teacher videos on their teacher Canvas page at any time throughout the day.
Spring Break
Spring break is still scheduled for March 27th through April 5th. Students will not have class during spring break.
