About Cedar Canyon Elementary School
Cedar Canyon Elementary School opened in August 2006. We currently have a student body of 588 students in grades Pre-K through 5. Cedar Canyon has been rated an "A"school by the Indiana Department of Education. 91.9% of students passed math assessment and 90.5% of students passed English/Language Arts assessment. Our attendance rate is 97.3%.
In 2007, Cedar Canyon Elementary started the Legacy Art Project, which adorns our hallways. The project was initiated by former Principal Phil Downs and former art teacher Erin McFarren. Together, they selected 70 famous paintings that every child should be exposed to from across all genres and cultures.Families, staff members and businesses all joined together to donate these pictures to our school. Although Mrs. McFarren has moved on, our art teachers continue to teach the students about these famous works of art.
At Cedar Canyon we house the corporation 's special needs pre-school, presently serving 25 children. Through generous donations from the PTO and community organizations, we also have an all-inclusive playground so children of all abilities can play without restrictions.
Cedar Canyon in conjunction with Trees Indiana is fortunate to have a Nature Center on our grounds. Students from all over the Northwest Allen County District can take advantage of the Nature Center. Trees Indiana also trains the teaching staff so they can better utilize the area.
